The Makeup Maestro

Daniel Sandler is Urban Retreat’s Makeup Maestro and with his self titled range and a collection for Urban Retreat Daniel was the perfect person to offer us tips on how to master contoured cheekbones, feline eyes and hot lips.

The Liquid Liner Effect

  • The most important thing you need for this look is a really good eyeliner, Daniel recommends Rock Chick from his own range at Harvey Nichols. Using a fluid and creamier eyeliner will achieve a smoother finish.
  • If you can’t draw the line on in one sweep, fear not there is a much easier way. Paint little dashes along the eyelid and then go back along and fill in the line. Always keep the line as close to the lashes as possible, if you aim for the lashes the line will never be too thick.
  • For the flick start from the outer edge, be confident and definite when painting and remember practice makes perfect!

Contoured Cheekbones

  • To achieve contoured cheekbones straight from the catwalk, you will need a pink blush, a contouring colour and universal powder.
  • After applying a rosy colour to the apple of your cheeks then use a matt bronzer under the cheekbone. Using a small angled brush draw a soft line from the hairline under the cheekbones and slightly wing it up to create a heart shape.
  • Next use a transparent pressed powder and apply under the cheekbones where the bronzer was applied. The finished look with give you perfect sculpted cheekbones and will also give the impression you have lost a few pounds!

Beautiful, hot lips

  • The catwalk is awash with hot pinks, hot oranges and tropical colours. It is important that when you apply it that the look you create is not too strong or 80s.
  • Do not apply colour straight from the bullet, rub with your finger and dab the colour onto your lips and blend so it looks more like a stain. Finish the look with a clear balm or gloss and perhaps a liner.
  • Sheer hot pinks are great for summer time and will carry on nicely over into autumn / winter.
